Following my drawing of Mariachtopus, I wanted to create another drawing based on my favorite type of cephalopod. The name Roboctopus came to me one day out of seemingly nowhere and I wanted to see a robot octopus on paper soon thereafter.

I don’t have much experience faking metallic surfaces in ink & paper, so I used the internet to see some suggestions on techniques to try. I also am not particularly good at making drawings perfectly symmetrical, although I felt this drawing called for it.

I think the newness of the metallic-looking shading techniques and my decision to have precise symmetry made me so nervous about this drawing that I fucked it totally up in multiple places. I actually dislike looking at this picture since it’s such a failure of a good idea. Maybe I should re-attempt on a computer application like Illustrator where the symmetry is guaranteed.
